BB is a common acronym for a Bottom Bracket.

Task Summary

workshop_tip_iconWORKSHOP TIP: A major advantage of these units is that they are much easier to remove than cartridge units if corrosion has seized them in.

Removing a BB unit is a common workshop job. You will often need to inspect a unit to see if it needs a clean/refurbishment or simply a straightforward replacement. To remove any BB unit you will first need to remove the cranks.

Shown here on the slideshow is the removal of a BB on an old, cotterpin bike.
