BB is a common acronym for a Bottom Bracket.
Task Summary
Essentially, an eccentric BB unit is like another shell that sits within the frame shell and houses the actual BB. (Inboard BBs are more commonly found within eccentrics, but it is possible to have other BB types within it.) Eccentric BBs are designed to keep chain tension. Once you have taken out your old unit, you will need to replace it as shown.
