Task Summary

Straight Bar Levers

The method for routing a cable through any straight bar brake lever - whether BMX U Brakes, Cantilever, V Brakes (MTB), or cable disc brakes, is essentially the same. One thing to remember is that the barrel adjuster must always be fully tightened after the cable has been slotted through. Now route the cable to the brakes.

Drop Bar Levers

After you have successfully got the cable through the lever, you are now ready to route the cable and housing to the relevant brake.

Cross Top Levers

The cables shown above are coming through drop bars and from dual control levers - which is the most common set up. You can use cross-top levers on straight bars, but they will of course be the only levers in use and the cable routing will start with them.
