Task Summary
These pictures have been taken without a wheel or without the tyre on the rim for demo purposes. Normally, you will be doing this task with the wheels on. Firstly, you must follow the same steps for this contemporary model as fitting a straddle and tensioning old-school cantilevers. You will then need to go onto fine tuning - where the main difference between this contemporary model and the old-school cantilevers is the little red bolt on the caliper arm which acts as the spring tension adjustment.
WORKSHOP TIP: Most contemporary cantilever brakes will have a straddle as seen above. This triangular piece acts like the straddle yoke and is fitted in the same way. The main difference being that this straddle has bolts which need to be tightened onto the bridge cable as shown here. These ensure that the cable stays stationary and therefore remains centred.
