Task Summary

Hub brakes can be found as both cable actuated drum brakes or coaster brakes.  As you cannot see the brake pads it is difficult to ascertain the correct cable tension. An experienced mechanic will do this by feel, following the steps shown here whilst pulling the lever in and out to guage when the brake starts to bite. Another way of telling that you have set the tension properly is to see that the brake lever and grip are parallel.
