Task Summary
Quick Release is a mechanism that allows you to open the brake calipers to remove the wheel without deflating tyre. Quick release is also useful for working on the brakes without having to reset cable tension - for example if you just want to replace the pads.
WORKSHOP TIP: On some dual pivot calipers It is possible to use this quick release mechanism to get you home on a very buckled wheel - try moving it slightly to widen the caliper arms away from the wheel. You can't do this on all caliper brakes however - with Campagnolo for example, your quick release mechanism is either on or off fully.
